Affirmative prayer is the foundation of Unity’s philosophy. This approach to prayer connects with the spirit of God that resides within each of us and expresses positive beliefs about the desired outcome. Affirmative prayer is the method of prayer that Jesus taught when he said, “So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24).
A traditional prayer might take the form of, for example, “Please, God, help me find a job.” The affirmative prayer is expressed as “I am now guided to my right and perfect employment.”
Affirmative prayer reflects the certainty that we are being led to our highest good, despite any temporary appearances.
Prayer Chaplains at Unity by the Bay
UBB has a team of dedicated prayer chaplains who serve our spiritual community in various ways. Their specialized training enables them to create and hold spiritual space when they pray with you in good times or when you are troubled.
After every (in-person) Sunday service at UBB, a chaplain is available for individual, private prayer. You are welcome to seek them out if you would find comfort in talking with them and experiencing a prayer that they will tailor to your request.
At the back of our sanctuary, a prayer box is available to receive your prayer requests. You are invited to write your request on a piece paper and place it in the box. The prayer team at UBB will pray over it for 30 days, and then it will be forwarded to Silent Unity, where it will be prayed over for an additional 30 days. All prayer requests are kept confidential by our office staff when they retrieve your request from the box and forward it for prayer.
Personal Contact with UBB
Our spiritual leader and prayer chaplains are committed to being available to our spiritual community for prayer. You are welcome to contact the church office at any time if you feel the need to talk with someone and request prayer. The phone number is 410-544-7990. Our administrator’s email address is email@example.com.
This is our method of prayer: acknowledging our oneness with God, claiming the ability that this gives, and expecting to have the things needed and conducive to spiritual progress.—Myrtle Fillmore, Healing Letters
The Silent Unity Prayer Ministry has been praying with people seeking spiritual support since 1890. In the sacred space of the Prayer Vigil Chapel, located beneath the light beaming from the cupola of the Silent Unity Building at Unity Village, all prayer requests are enfolded in prayer. The 24/7 prayer ministry—which responds to prayer requests via telephone, postal mail, online request form and via the uPray free mobile app—serves people of all faiths from all parts of the world. You are welcome to call anytime you would like someone to pray with you for comfort or in celebration.
There is no charge for this connection. The phone number is 816-969-2000, and the web address is unity.org/prayer.
The prayer team at UBB prays over each prayer request received in the prayer box at the back of our sanctuary for 30 days. The requests are then forwarded to Silent Unity, where they are prayed over for an additional 30 days. All prayer requests are considered confidential.

Finding Peace through Prayer
Rather than praying for peace, prayer offers the opportunity to feel inner peace through the experience itself. When we expand and fully participate in our prayer practice, we find, restore, and take comfort in our own peace within. The new booklet from Unity, Finding Peace Through Prayer, will help you do this.
